Paul McCartney warned that AI could rob artists

Paul McCartney, one of the legendary members of “The Beatles”, warned that artificial intelligence could be used to rob artists. He called on the British government to ensure protection for the creative industries in future copyright reforms,  informs Reuters.

The UK has offered artists the chance to license their work for AI training. At the same time, an exception was specified that would allow AI developers to use materials for which the rights were not protected. McCartney expressed concern that the lack of adequate copyright protection could result in only technology companies benefiting.

“AI is a great thing, but it shouldn’t rob creative people. Make sure you protect creative thinkers, creative artists, or you won’t have them. It’s that simple.”, – noted the musician.

The British government is currently consulting on copyright reforms, recognizing the legal uncertainty surrounding the application of current laws. This could jeopardize the investment and development of artificial intelligence technologies. McCartney emphasized the risk that artists would lose their rights if reforms did not take their interests into account.

“You get young guys, girls who write a great song and they don’t own it and they don’t have anything to do with it and anybody who wants to can just steal it. The truth is, the money goes somewhere, and they end up on streaming platforms – somebody gets them, and it has to be the person who created them. It doesn’t have to be some tech giant somewhere.”, – added Paul.
