A new dangerous strain of mpox is spreading rapidly, especially in central Africa

The World Health Organization reports the rapid spread of a new mpox strain, called clade 1lb, which is considered the most dangerous to date. Central African countries, especially the Democratic Republic of the Congo, are at the highest risk.

About this informs The Sun.

Mpox is a viral infection that causes flu-like symptoms and purulent lesions. Although most cases are mild, the disease can be fatal, especially for children.

Unlike previous strains, clade 1lb is not only transmitted sexually, but also through casual contact. This is a serious concern among experts, as the virus could spread to other parts of the world, including Europe.

Congo has already recorded three deaths from the new strain, and the number of cases continues to rise. Scientists warn that this is only the “tip of the iceberg” and the true number of cases may be much higher.

WHO and other organizations are working to address the problem, including ensuring access to vaccines and treatment in countries affected by the outbreak. However, the situation remains difficult and urgent measures are needed to contain the spread of the virus.
