Poland plans to create its own defense system separate from the EU’s “Drone Wall” initiative

Poland plans to create its own drone defense system within a few months, separate from the European Union’s “Drone Wall” initiative. This was announced in an interview with Bloomberg by Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk.

According to him, in November the Polish Defense Ministry will announce investments in technologies for detecting, suppressing, and neutralizing enemy drones as part of a broader air defense program. At least half of the contracts should go to Polish companies.

The ministry also plans to use the EU’s new SAFE defense loan program. Tomczyk stressed that the joint EU initiative on the “drone wall” could “supplement” the Polish system in the future.

“We agree with the idea of strengthening the protection of airspace over the entire European Union and are ready to consider external proposals and solutions. But we give priority to national projects. If there are any external tools, we will use them to the fullest”, – he explained.

Poland plans to put the first elements of the anti-drone system into operation within three months after the announcement of the program, and its full implementation is expected in two years.

“Weapons to combat drones should be comprehensive. It should consist of various sensors and actuators that work simultaneously, first detecting and identifying objects, and then neutralizing them, Tomczyk noted.

He added that the experience of Ukraine and Russia in using drones shows that strengthening Poland’s capabilities in this area “should be a priority” – both on land, in the air and on water.
