Poland starts construction of the Eastern Shield on the border with Russia and Belarus: Tusk
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the start of construction of the Eastern Shield defence system on the borders with Russia and Belarus.
‘Construction of the Eastern Shield has begun! The first works on the border with Russia,’ Tusk wrote on the social network X. He also added a photo of the equipment digging trenches.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, the project was presented in May, and the first test trials of its elements took place in October at the Orzhysz training ground in the Warmia and Mazury Voivodeship.
‘The Eastern Shield will include a complex of fortifications, fortifications and natural barriers. In addition, intelligence and threat detection systems will be installed, as well as advanced bases, logistics centres, warehouses and systems to counter drones. A total of PLN 10 billion has been allocated for this programme over the next four years.
Threat from Russia Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have previously decided to build defences on their borders with Russia and Belarus.
Poland’s Ministry of Defence reported that the Eastern Shield will include fortifications, logistics hubs, and telecommunications systems in cooperation with other NATO allies in the east, including Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
In the summer, Bloomberg noted that Russia’s hybrid warfare was opening a new front on NATO’s eastern borders, and destabilising operations had intensified in the Baltic region.
