Today, April 25, in the Kyiv region, law enforcement agencies detained a man suspected of committing armed hooliganism. The incident occurred in the Buchansky district after the police received a report from eyewitnesses about the sounds of gunshots on one of the streets of Bucha.
The security police officers who arrived on call promptly detained the offender directly at the scene of the incident.
The investigation established that a 42-year-old man, while intoxicated, got out of a taxi and began to fire random shots into the air. Thanks to the quick response of law enforcement agencies, tragic consequences were prevented: according to official data, there were no injuries among the civilian population. The attacker is currently in custody, and the weapon has been seized for appropriate examinations.
“It has been established that a 42-year-old man, while intoxicated, got out of a taxi onto the street and began shooting randomly. There were no injuries among the population,” the Main Department of the National Police of Kyiv Region noted.
In light of the incident, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article provides for liability for gross violation of public order with the use of firearms. If the detainee is proven guilty in court, he faces a sentence of imprisonment for a term of up to seven years. Law enforcement officers continue to document the circumstances of the offense and establish the origin of the weapon.
In parallel, the courts of the Kyiv region continue to issue sentences for other high-profile crimes. Recently, two foreigners were sentenced to eight years in prison for attacking a local resident, threatening him with a grenade. The perpetrators, one of whom was on the international wanted list, forced the victim to transfer money to their account, but were promptly detained and brought to justice.
Ensuring security in the settlements of the Kyiv region remains a priority task for police units. Systematic patrols and responding to citizens’ reports allow them to effectively counteract cases of armed aggression and hooliganism in residential areas, guaranteeing the protection of the region’s residents.
