Prisoner beaten to death in Kharkiv pre-trial detention center: 7 employees of the institution are suspected (video)
A case of fatal beating of a prisoner was recorded in the Kharkiv remand prison. The Prosecutor’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation announced the suspicion of seven employees of the institution who may be involved in this incident. informs Office of the Prosecutor General.
According to the investigation, the event took place on April 14, 2025 in the institution “Kharkiv remand prison”. The victim was beaten by other prisoners, and the injuries he received became fatal for him. The employees of the pre-trial detention center decided to “educate” one of the newly arrived suspects and illegally transferred him to the cell where the convict was already. A few hours later, the man was brutally beaten until he was semi-conscious.
Despite the serious condition of the victim, the employees of the institution did not provide him with medical aid and did not call an ambulance, leaving him in an isolated cell without supervision. At night, the man died as a result of a craniocerebral injury, bone fractures, damage to internal organs and soft tissues. According to the conclusions of the forensic medical examination, timely help could have saved his life.
In order to hide the real circumstances of the death, the prison staff submitted false information to the relevant authorities, claiming that the deceased died as a result of a fight in the cell. They hid the fact of the illegal transfer and their inaction.
On June 27, three employees of the pre-trial detention center — the former acting head of the institution and two senior operational officers — were charged with exceeding their official powers and leaving in danger. Currently, a petition to the court for their arrest is being prepared. Four more former employees were charged with official negligence. The prosecutor’s office plans to apply for a preventive measure in the form of round-the-clock house arrest for them.
Separately, the National Police reported the suspicion of one of the convicts, who directly inflicted serious bodily injuries on the victim, which led to his death.
