Putin’s spokesman criticized the participation of the Ukrainian military in the parade in the UK

The Kremlin reacted sharply to the news about the invitation of servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to a solemn parade in Great Britain dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. The event is scheduled to take place on May 5 and symbolizes the end of World War II on the European continent.

Commenting on this decision, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmytro Peskov, issued a statement that was circulated by Russian media. He called the participation of the Ukrainian military in such celebrations “disrespect for the memory of the dead” and “blasphemy.” According to Peskov, inviting “followers of neo-Nazi elements” to an event commemorating the victory over Nazism is an insult not only to the historic event itself, but also to British veterans who died during the Second World War.

“Inviting representatives of the Ukrainian army to celebrate the victory in the war against Nazism is not just an insult. This, in Russian, is blasphemy. In particular, it is about disrespecting those British soldiers who gave their lives for the victory over Hitlerism.” – said Peskov, resorting to typical accusations against Ukraine of “heroization of the Nazis”.

It will be recalled that the official London earlier announced that among the participants of the Victory in Europe Day parade, which will take place on May 5, there will be representatives of the Armed Forces. Their participation is symbolic as a manifestation of Ukraine’s support in the fight against Russian aggression, which has been going on for more than two years. The parade will be part of commemorating those who died in the Second World War and a demonstration of the unity of democratic countries in the face of new challenges.
