Putin’s visit to North Korea: Kremlin statement

Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to Vietnam on June 19-20, which is marked as an invitation by the country’s leadership.

This was reported by RosZMI.

At the invitation of the Head of State Affairs of Vietnam, Vu Minh Chau, Vladimir Putin will pay a friendly state visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on June 19-20., the message says.

During his stay in Vietnam, Putin intends to discuss a wide range of issues, including the development of trade and economic relations, cooperation in the energy sector, as well as issues of the international and regional agenda. The visit takes place in the context of the strategic partnership between Moscow and Hanoi, which is strengthening every year.

Putin’s visit to Vietnam comes amid growing international outrage over his role in the war against Ukraine. It is noted that Russia is trying to use regional connections for international support and distorting the international audience regarding its actions in the Ukrainian conflict theater.

After the meeting with North Korea, where military cooperation and the supply of military equipment were also discussed, the visit to Vietnam becomes key to expanding Russia’s influence in Southeast Asia. It is expected that Putin and the Vietnamese leaders will adopt a joint statement and sign a number of important bilateral documents, which will further consolidate their relations at the level of strategic partnership.

Voice of America notes that this will be the first visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to North Korea in the last 24 years, since he became the president of the Russian Federation in 2000. The visit takes on particular importance in the context of international outrage over a deal between Pyongyang and Moscow under which North Korea supplies military equipment to Russia in exchange for economic and technological support.

In particular, the growth of military and economic cooperation between the countries is noted, which was the result of the meeting between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin in the Russian Far East last September.

Accusing North Korea of providing military aid to Russia to support the war in Ukraine caused a reaction from US and South Korean officials, who emphasized the violation of UN Security Council resolutions. Both countries, Pyongyang and Moscow, reject accusations of cooperation on the supply of weapons, stressing the importance of their own sovereignty and defense policy.
