The man turned himself in to the police voluntarily after his conversation with the bot was broadcast on several platforms, and the video gained about a million views. During the conversation, he made inappropriate suggestions and ignored the warning that the “girl” was only 14 years old.
He was charged with sexual harassment and solicitation of indecent photos.
The influencer who created the chatbot hid part of the character’s face using a montage to deceive the suspect. The case has sparked a discussion of the ethical issues surrounding the use of artificial intelligence to combat pedophilia. The investigation is ongoing.
