US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during which he repeated Donald Trump’s call to stop the killings and make real progress in settling the war against Ukraine. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, said State Department Deputy Spokesman Tommy Pigott.
“The Secretary of State repeated the call of US President Donald Trump to stop the killings and the need for Moscow to take significant steps to achieve a long-term settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war”, – the message says.
Rubio emphasized that the administration of President Trump expects concrete actions from the Russian side that will demonstrate readiness to stop aggression and seek a diplomatic solution to the war against Ukraine.
The spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, published two photos of the “meeting of the heads of foreign policy departments of Russia and the United States” without comment. The Russian state agency TASS reported that the meeting lasted more than 50 minutes.
Recall that US President Donald Trump, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, said that Ukraine can not only restore its territorial integrity, but also achieve more. In addition, he called Russia a “paper tiger” and expressed his deep disappointment with Vladimir Putin’s actions.
