Russia plans to use the power of the Zapadnaya NPP for cryptocurrency mining

Vladimir Putin made a number of statements regarding the future of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. During a meeting with business representatives, he claimed that Moscow was allegedly discussing various scenarios related to the operation of the plant with Washington. This was reported by Russian media.

According to Putin, this refers, in particular, to the possibility of joint management of the nuclear facility with the United States without the participation of Ukraine. He also stated that the American side is allegedly showing interest in using the ZNPP’s capacity for cryptocurrency mining. Separately, the Russian President noted that, at the initiative of the United States, the option of supplying electricity generated at the station to Ukraine is being considered.

In addition, Putin touched on the topic of the Zaporizhzhia NPP personnel, stating that Ukrainian specialists continue to work at the station, however, according to him, they have already received Russian passports.

Zaporizhzhia NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, located near the city of Energodar. Russian troops seized the facility in March 2022. Currently, the station is under the de facto control of Rosatom, although legally it belongs to the Ukrainian Energoatom.
