Russia wants to buy gas for Transnistria in Europe

Russia and Transnistria are discussing the possibility of buying gas in Europe with the help of an intermediary company. This is reported by rosZMI.
Moscow and Tiraspol are considering the possibility of supplying gas to Transnistria not through Turkish Stream, which was previously considered the main option after the cessation of transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. Instead, it is planned to purchase gas on the European spot market through an intermediary, and the costs will be covered by the Russian budget.
According to preliminary information, the supply of gas according to this scheme from January to April in the amount of 3 million cubic meters per day is being discussed, which may cost about 164 million dollars. These volumes will be sufficient to meet the internal needs of Transnistria, but not enough to export electricity from the Moldovan DRES to the right-bank part of Moldova.
The mediator is not “Moldovagaz”, but the company “Natural Gaz D.C.”. Company co-owner Arkady Vilkol confirmed that a framework contract has already been signed with Tiraspoltransgaz for the supply of 2-3 million cubic meters of gas per day.
We will remind that the other day the leader of Transnistria, Vadym Krasnoselskyi, visited Moscow for negotiations on the supply of gas. After that, he said that supplies should soon resume as part of “humanitarian aid.”
