SAP referred to the court the case of a high-ranking official of the SBU, who was exposed for extorting $300,000
The specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office referred to the court an indictment against the head of the sector of the Department for the Protection of National Statehood of the Security Service of Ukraine, who was exposed for demanding an illegal benefit in the amount of 300,000 US dollars.
According to the materials of the pre-trial investigation carried out by NABU detectives, the unit under the leadership of the official carried out the procedural instructions of the investigator of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police in the case of the organization of an illegal channel for transporting men who evaded mobilization abroad.
The investigation established that the head of the sector, acting through two intermediaries (among whom was a former SBU employee), demanded 300,000 US dollars from the subject of the case. For this money, he promised to destroy part of the materials of the criminal proceedings and to inform about the already collected evidence. In case of refusal, the official threatened to initiate prosecution under more serious articles related to encroachment on the foundations of national security.
Law enforcement officers documented the fact that the SBU employee received part of the amount — 72,000 USD. His actions are qualified under Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, while his accomplices are charged under Part 5 of Art. 27 and Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
