SAPO and NABU report suspicions to two lawyers caught attempting to bribe a judge

On the instructions of the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the prosecutor, together with NABU detectives, reported suspicions to two lawyers who were caught attempting to bribe a judge. Their actions were classified under Part 1 of Art. 14 and Part 3 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that the lawyers were preparing to transfer the illegal benefit to a judge of one of the Kyiv courts in exchange for an acquittal in a case involving the theft of sand from the joint-stock company “Ukrzaliznytsia”.

To implement their plan, the lawyers received a bribe from one of the expert institutions for an expert opinion appointed by the court, which they planned to use as a basis for further transferring the illegal benefit to the judge in order to achieve the acquittal of their client.

The actions of the suspects were qualified under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – as preparation for providing an illegal benefit to an official. In addition, one of the lawyers who was exposed in this case is also suspected of unauthorized access to the Unified State Register of Court Decisions. He and other individuals were exposed back in April 2025.

With the help of this scheme, the suspects regularly received confidential information about planned investigative actions and searches conducted by NABU in order to warn their clients about them in advance.
