Scientists have developed a patch for convenient and effective treatment of psoriasis

A new technology created by researchers from the University of Copenhagen could make life much easier for millions of patients with psoriasis and other inflammatory skin diseases. Researchers presented prototype nanofiber patch that they say is a breakthrough in the treatment of psoriasis. This patch allows you to make the treatment process more convenient and reduce the frequency of use of the means.
Unlike traditional creams and ointments that need to be applied several times a day, the nanofiber patch needs to be replaced only every two days. The dry texture of the patch eliminates discomfort from oily products, providing comfortable treatment.
“Our studies have confirmed that the patch is no less effective than traditional treatment methods, but requires significantly less effort from the patient.”, – said associate professor of the University of Copenhagen Andrea Heinz, one of the authors of the study.
A feature of the nanofiber patch is the ability to gradually release two active substances on the skin at different times. This helps to optimize the treatment and reduces the inflammatory processes characteristic of psoriasis.
The technology is particularly effective for treating localized lesions, such as psoriatic plaques, and has potential for use in other inflammatory skin conditions, the researchers report.
“This patch could revolutionize dermatology and improve the quality of life for millions of patients.”, – adds Andrea Heinz.
Scientists are continuing research to adapt the patch for mass production and to explore the possibility of its use in other diseases. If the development is implemented, it could change the way we treat chronic skin diseases.
