Sébastien Lecornu, who previously headed the Ministry of Defense, became the new prime minister of France

French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Sébastien Lecorne, who previously headed the Ministry of Defense, as the country’s prime minister. This is reported on the Elysee Palace website.

Macron instructed the new prime minister to hold consultations with the political forces represented in the parliament to pass the state budget and the “agreements necessary for decisions in the coming months”. After these discussions, Lecornu should present the composition of the government.

Lecornu became the seventh prime minister during the presidency of Emmanuel Macron and the fifth since the start of his second term in 2022. The day before, the French Parliament expressed a vote of no confidence in the government of François Bairro. After that, he submitted his resignation to the president. The official transfer of power is scheduled for September 10.

Lecornu was born 39 years ago in the north of France. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a soldier, inspired by his grandfather, a former member of the Resistance Movement, and also tested himself in monastic life at Saint-Vandrii Abbey.

He received his secondary education at a private Catholic institution, after which he studied law at Pantheon-Assas University. As a teenager, he joined the Young Right party. in the Vernon region. In 2014, he was elected mayor of Vernon, but left that position to head the Ere department council.

In 2017, Macron appointed Lecorne as Secretary of State under the Minister for Environmental and Inclusive Transition. Later, he became the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and in May 2022 he headed the Ministry of Defense.

As the head of the Ministry of Defense, Lekornyu organized military aid to Ukraine and emphasized that France would not agree to “any demilitarization of the Ukrainian army”.
