Servant of the People MP Kormyshkina is served a notice of suspicion of illicit enrichment of UAH 20 million
People’s deputy from the “Servant of the People” faction Iryna Kormyshkina found herself at the center of a serious corruption scandal – she is accused of illegal enrichment in the amount of more than 20 million hryvnias. Such information made public The specialized anti-corruption prosecutor’s office announced the opening of criminal proceedings.
According to the investigation, in the period from 2021 to 2022, Kormyshkina acquired assets worth more than 20 million hryvnias. In particular, these funds were spent on the purchase of a luxurious house in the Odesa region, where the deputy currently lives. However, according to official data on her income during this period, the politician’s earnings and savings amounted to only about 2.7 million hryvnias, and were used for other needs. This raises serious questions about the source of the remaining funds.
Kormyshkini was charged under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for responsibility for illegal enrichment. If she is found guilty, the deputy faces up to 10 years of imprisonment with the possibility of losing the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years.
The suspicion of Kormyshkinia was preceded by an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Center, which drew attention to numerous questionable financial transactions. In particular, the organization’s reports mention that Kormyshkina received gifts totaling 14.4 million hryvnias. In addition, even earlier she was presented with 5.3 million hryvnias and a watch from Switzerland, worth 310 thousand hryvnias, encrusted with 11 diamonds. It is important to note that the person who made these donations has no official income of this magnitude, which only strengthens suspicions about the origin of these funds.
The anti-corruption center initiated an investigation, turning to the Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin with a demand to register a criminal case to verify these facts. However, due to the lack of response from law enforcement agencies, the organization filed a lawsuit in court. The higher anti-corruption court ordered the prosecutor general to open proceedings regarding the possible illegal enrichment of the deputy.
Iryna Kormyshkina (formerly Iryna Allahverdiyeva) became a people’s deputy in 2019, having entered the list of the “Servant of the People” party at number 116. She is also a member of the faction and heads the subcommittee on tariff and non-tariff regulation in the VRU Committee on Finance, Taxation and customs policy. Previously, she was repeatedly at the center of other scandals, in particular, in 2020, she became a participant in a sexist incident with the participation of David Arakhamia and Oleksandr Kornienko.
In her professional career, Kormyshkina also held senior positions in the insurance industry, working as the director of the Mykolaiv Regional Directorate of Unika SC PJSC, and also held senior positions in other well-known insurance companies.
