The Ukrainian national team repeated the historical record for the number of awards at the European Fencing Championship

The 2026 European Fencing Championships have concluded in the French city of Antony, where the Ukrainian national team repeated the national record for the number of medals won.

Ukrainian athletes won five awards: one gold and four bronze. Olga Sopit became the European champion in the women’s foil competition.

Roman Svichkar, Yevhen Makienko, Mykyta Koshman and Mykhailo Krasnyuk won the bronze medal in the team epee competition. Olga Komashchuk won another bronze in the individual sabre competition.

Also third in the team tournaments were foil fencers Alina Polozyuk, Darya Myronyuk, Olga Sopit and Khrystyna Petrova, as well as epee fencers Olena Kryvytska, Yana Shemyakina, Inna Brovko and Anna Maksymenko.

This result was a repeat of the best performance in the history of the Ukrainian national team at the continental championships. The last time the Ukrainian team won five medals was in 2005, when it finished the tournament with one gold, one silver and three bronze.

In the overall medal standings, the Ukrainian national team took fourth place, losing to Italy, France and Hungary. The performance in Anton was one of the most successful for Ukrainian fencing at the European Championships.
