Several EU countries have adjusted US entry rules for transgender people

Several European countries have adjusted the rules for entering the US for transgender people. They advised their transgender and non-binary citizens to exercise caution when applying for visas and other permits. About this informs Axios portal.
“If your gender is X (non-binary gender identity) on your passport or you have changed sex, it is recommended that you contact the US Embassy before traveling for instructions on what to do next”, – it is noted on the updated page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
When applying for a visa, it should be borne in mind that only two gender options are available in the forms: male or female. A week ago, a similar clarification appeared on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
“If the gender listed on the applicant’s passport does not match the gender assigned at birth, U.S. authorities may deny the travel authorization or visa application,” – warned the agency.
Germany’s foreign ministry also said that travelers planning to travel to the US must indicate on their visa application whether they are male or female. The message states that these advisory changes were made because “citizens of several European countries have been detained by US immigration authorities due to problems with tourist visas.”
We will remind that in January 2025, US President Donald Trump signed a decree establishing the official recognition of only two genders – male and female. This document requires federal agencies to use the term “sex” instead of “gender” and to rely on a person’s biological classification as male or female. This decision overturns previous policies that supported diversity and inclusion, particularly for the LGBTQ+ community.
