Slovakia criticized Fico’s trip to Moscow
The visit of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to the Kremlin caused a wave of indignation among Slovak politicians, who called it a shame for the country and a betrayal of national interests. About this informs Aktuality.sk.
“If the prime minister was really concerned about gas transit, he should have negotiated with the Ukrainian side, and not make Slovakia an instrument of Russian propaganda.” – said the leader of the opposition party “Progressive Slovakia” Michal Shimechka.
He also called this trip a shame for Slovakia and a betrayal of national interests.
Former foreign minister and member of the PS presidency, Ivan Korchok, also expressed sharp criticism, calling Fico’s trip a “turning point” in Slovak foreign policy.
“After the failure in Brussels at the EU summit, when no one in the European Union supported his request to preserve gas transit through Ukraine, the prime minister went to stand next to the Russian president. This is a betrayal of our allies and Slovakia, this is a gap in our foreign policy, which the prime minister does not have a mandate”, – stressed Korchok.
Robert Fizo, despite the barrage of criticism, visited Moscow and held talks with Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. This, according to many experts, weakens Slovakia’s position in the international arena and calls into question its adherence to European values.
