State Border Service of Ukraine announces a decrease in attempts to illegally cross the border
In Ukraine, a decrease in the number of attempts to illegally cross the state border has been recorded over the past two months. The State Border Service explains this trend by the deterioration of weather conditions. This was reported by the spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko. According to him, the peak of the detention of violators this year fell in August.
“Since September, the trend has been declining. This is facilitated by weather conditions. Most often, violators try to cross the border in spring and summer, and autumn and winter are the periods when there are fewer willing ones, Demchenko said. The spokesman also specified that the largest number of attempts at illegal crossing are recorded in the directions of Romania, Moldova, and Hungary. Fewer violators are recorded in the direction of Slovakia and Poland, he added. Recall that since the beginning of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, there has been a ban on men of draft age from 18 to 60 years old traveling abroad due to the introduction of martial law. Exceptions apply to certain categories – students of foreign universities, volunteers, drivers and parents with many children.
On August 26, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced that the government had updated the rules for crossing the state border. From now on, men aged 18 to 22 can leave the territory of Ukraine without hindrance during martial law.
On August 27, the Cabinet of Ministers published a corresponding resolution that officially allows men of this age category to leave.
