Steve Witkoff announced “some progress” in resolving the war in Ukraine

The US plans to focus on ending Russia’s war against Ukraine after the Gaza conflict is resolved and sees “some progress” on this issue. This was announced by US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff during a speech at the American Business Forum in Miami.

“I feel that there is some progress today, but I think this is a difficult conflict. I think both sides do not trust each other, and this is a really difficult situation,” he noted.

Witkoff compared Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine to the war between Israel and Hamas. On October 13, the parties reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, although, according to Trump’s special representative, neither side believed in fulfilling these conditions.

“We had some very direct and frank conversations with both sides about the need to seize the opportunity. And I hope that in the “conflict” between Russia and Ukraine, people will make bold leadership decisions and seize this opportunity”, he explained.

Trump’s special representative also emphasized that the US president “is constantly monitoring” on the issue of resolving the war in Ukraine.

As a reminder, on October 27, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga confirmed that Steve Witkoff had received an invitation to pay an official visit to Ukraine:

“The Ukrainian side has invited high-ranking American officials to visit Ukraine. Mr. Witkoff also received such an invitation. We are always happy to welcome our American friends to Ukraine”.
