Sweden has declared its readiness to shoot down Russian planes that violate its borders
Sweden is ready to use force if necessary and will shoot down Russian fighter jets that violate its airspace. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the country, Paul Jönsson, reports Aftonbladet.
The minister emphasized that “no country has the right to violate the airspace of Sweden”, therefore the country “has the right to protect its airspace, if necessary – with the use of force”.
“In the so-called IKFN decree on the actions of the army in the event of violations of Swedish territory, the government gave the Armed Forces instructions on how to deal with offending aircraft. This includes the right, if necessary, to use weapons – with or without a warning”, – Jonson noted.
We will remind you that in September, the Russian military carried out a series of demonstrative violations of the airspace of NATO countries. At the beginning of September, about 20 drones of the Russian Federation entered the territory of Poland and were shot down by air defense forces and NATO aircraft. They did not carry combat units.
On September 19, Russian MiG-31 fighter jets, equipped with “Kinjal” aeroballistic missiles, invaded the airspace of Estonia for 12 minutes. F-35 fighters of the Italian Air Force rose to intercept.
On September 21, Russian fighter jets flew over the Polish drilling platform Petrobaltic in the Baltic Sea.
