Switzerland’s largest bank UBS appoints first head of AI

Swiss financial group UBS has appointed Daniele Magazzeni as the bank’s first Chief AI Officer. Before that, he worked as a chief AI analyst in JP Morgan’s European division, as well as in commercial and investment banking. His main task will be to implement and scale UBS’s AI strategy, reports Finextra.

The focus is on improving the client experience, increasing the efficiency of internal processes and implementing uniform standards for the use of artificial intelligence across all divisions of the bank.

Before working in the financial sector, Magazzeni was an associate professor of AI at King’s College London. His experience in applying AI to business processes, including traditional and generative technologies, should help transform UBS’s operations at various levels, Dargan said.

UBS is actively implementing AI tools. In May of this year, the bank presented its experience using video avatars — realistic AI versions of its own analysts. The project, launched in early 2025, is based on OpenAI and Synthesia models and has already brought together more than 36 analysts from the bank’s 720 employees.

The bank is implementing this technology with caution. Each video has a disclaimer at the bottom informing viewers that the content was created using AI. Analysts participate in such projects voluntarily, and the videos themselves are mostly used to distribute analytical materials to existing clients in a convenient format.
