The Anti-Corruption Commission confiscated over 400 million hryvnias from former Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has granted the claim of the Ministry of Justice to impose sanctions on the former Minister of Internal Affairs of the time of Viktor Yanukovych, Vitaliy Zakharchenko. This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.
According to the court’s decision, six real estate objects were seized from the state’s income, including two apartments in Kyiv, corporate rights and funds in bank accounts. The total value of the confiscated property exceeds 400 million hryvnias.
The sanctions were imposed in accordance with paragraph 1-1 of part one of Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” — as a measure aimed at preventing the use of assets of persons who pose a threat to the national security of Ukraine.
Vitaly Zakharchenko is a defendant in several criminal proceedings being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation, some of which have already been referred to court. He is accused of high treason, creation of a criminal organization, organization of serious crimes against participants in the Revolution of Dignity, as well as legalization of proceeds from crime.
As part of these investigations, SBI investigators discovered and seized the property of the former fugitive minister worth over 1.4 billion hryvnias. Work is ongoing to return the remaining assets.
After the Revolution of Dignity, Zakharchenko fled to Russia, where he publicly spreads Russian propaganda and justifies aggression against Ukraine. In 2021, sanctions were imposed against him, which will be in effect until 2034.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, in 2022 he tried to persuade Ukrainian officials to cooperate with the occupation authorities, promising them high positions. Zakharchenko is currently on the international wanted list and is hiding in Russia.
