The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky dismissed two corps commanders of the Defense Forces

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi decided to dismiss the commanders of two corps – the head of the 17th Corps Volodymyr Silenko and the head of the 20th of Maxim Kitugin’s corpus.

“Such personnel decisions of the Commander-in-Chief are connected with the omissions of two commanders in the management of troops. The consequences of inefficient leadership in the areas of responsibility were, most importantly, the loss of personnel and the loss of territories in the areas of responsibility in the Zaporizhia and Novopavliv directions, the General Staff noted.

According to the General Staff, Silenko and Kitugin will continue to serve in other positions. The commander-in-chief’s decisions are directly related to the loss of positions in the corps’ area of responsibility. In particular, the 17th corps under the command of Silenko is stationed in the Zaporizhzhia region, where the Defense Forces recently lost the village of Kamianske and part of the village of Plavni on the banks of the Dnieper. The 20th corps, which was commanded by Kitugin, is located on the border of Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, where Russian troops managed to break into the territory of Dnipropetrovsk region.

These are the first personnel changes since the transition of the Defense Forces to the corps management system.

We remind you that at the end of 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine switched to the corps system. The corps is an organizational form of military units of the operational level, which is used in the armed forces of a number of states. In Ukraine, separate brigades have been combined into corps, and their commander is responsible for the activities of all subordinate units.
