Monobank suffered a massive DDoS attack: three billion requests in two days

Monobank was subjected to a large-scale DDoS attack, as a result of which the service received about three billion requests within two days. Despite this, the bank continues to operate stably.

On August 17, Monobank faced a massive DDoS attack that continues to this day with minimal interruptions. Oleg Horokhovskyi, co-founder of the bank, announced this on his Telegram channel. The main target of the attack is the “Banks” service, which customers use to save money, in particular, to collect for the needs of the army.

Horokhovsky noted that within two days the number of requests for this service reached almost three billion, which created a serious challenge for the bank’s IT infrastructure.

Yesterday, the attack stopped for only a few hours, from 22:30 to 03:15, but then resumed with renewed force.

Monobank continues to defend its positions so that customers can use services without hindrance and continue to support the Ukrainian military.

“We are doing everything possible so that you can continue to help our defenders,” – emphasized Horokhovsky, urging customers to continue donating to the Armed Forces in response to the actions of the attackers.

A DoS attack is a type of hacking attack aimed at overloading the system, making it inaccessible to users. Often it aims to cause economic losses to the owners of the system.
A DDoS attack is a more powerful variant of DoS that uses a large number of sources to create an overload, making it particularly effective and difficult to track.

We will remind that in May, hackers intensified cyber attacks on mobile devices of the Ukrainian military, as reported by the State Special Communications Service.
