The court postponed the consideration of Petro Poroshenko’s lawsuit regarding NSDC sanctions.

The Cassation Administrative Court of the Supreme Court postponed the consideration of the lawsuit of the fifth President of Ukraine and current People’s Deputy Petro Poroshenko, who is challenging the sanctions imposed on him by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on February 12, 2025. The reason for the postponement was the failure to appear of the representative of the Office of the President, who is the defendant in the case.

At the meeting on January 5, it was planned to examine the last 50 pages of the evidence base, but the court received a written request from Lyudmila Pantyukhova, who requested to postpone the consideration due to her health. Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Ministers Department Dmytro Polets supported the motion, emphasizing that this was the first failure of the representative to appear during the entire process. The court granted the motion and set a new date for the hearing for January 30, 2026 at 11:00.

Petro Poroshenko and his lawyers categorically opposed the postponement of the hearing, believing that the representative’s failure to appear was not a valid reason. The lawyers emphasized that the case was being considered under simplified proceedings and the hearing could have been held. Poroshenko called the postponement a “deliberate disruption of the process” and stated that the delay in the hearing violated his constitutional rights and complicated preparations for the upcoming presidential elections.

The hearing was accompanied by a support event. The hall was filled with young activists holding posters with the inscriptions “We need democracy”, “Sanctions OFF — Democracy ON” and “Rights are worth fighting for”.

The sanctions against Petro Poroshenko and other individuals, imposed by the National Security and Defense Council on February 12, 2025, provide for the blocking of assets, a ban on participating in the privatization and lease of state property, as well as the termination of agreements in the security and defense sectors. The sanctions were imposed indefinitely. On February 28, 2025, Poroshenko’s lawyers filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court demanding the lifting of these restrictions.
