The Estonian Foreign Ministry commented on the regime of silence disrupted by Russia

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that Russia’s refusal to support the ceasefire proposed by Ukraine indicates Moscow’s unwillingness to move towards a genuine peaceful settlement. This was reported by the Estonian news agency ERR.

According to Tsahkna, the ceasefire announced by the Kremlin was primarily intended to ensure the parade on May 9. He believes that the shortened format of the event and increased security measures demonstrate the uncertainty of the Russian authorities.

“The Russian Federation has always sought to show itself as a powerful military power, and the parade in Moscow was a key element of this image. The fact that it is being planned on a reduced scale for the first time in a decade, without significant equipment and with unprecedented security measures, shows how weak the regime of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is and how afraid he is of Ukraine,” Tsahkna noted.

The Estonian Foreign Minister called on the European Union to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, prepare new restrictions and hold Moscow accountable for the war that has broken out. He also stressed the need to increase support for Ukraine until Russia demonstrates readiness for real peace.

Against this background, Ukraine has reported numerous ceasefire violations by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation since the introduction of a ceasefire on May 6.
