The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia in connection with hybrid threats for another year, until October 9, 2026. This is reports the press service of the Council of the EU.

“The Council of the EU decided to extend the effect of individual restrictive measures against persons responsible for Russia’s destabilizing actions abroad for one year, until October 9, 2021”, the statement said.

The EU stressed that the restrictions continue due to Russia’s hybrid activities, in particular the manipulation of foreign information against the EU, its member states and partners. In total, the measures are currently applied to 47 individuals and 15 legal entities.

The assets of these persons are subject to freezing, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing them with funds, financial assets or economic resources. Natural persons are also subject to a ban on entry or transit through the territory of the EU. Viktor Medvedchuk also appears in the list.

We remind you that on October 8, 2024, the EU Council adopted a set of restrictive measures in response to Russia’s destabilizing actions. The sanctions regime is aimed at those who participate in the actions and policies of the Russian government that undermine the fundamental values of the EU and its member states, their security, stability, independence and integrity. It also covers persons responsible for hybrid activities against third countries and international organizations.

In May 2025, the EU expanded the scope of restrictive measures to include material assets linked to Russia’s destabilizing activities, financial sponsors of such activities, and to allow the suspension of broadcasting licenses of Russian media outlets involved in disinformation.
