The EU summoned the Russian attorney general over the Kremlin’s threats to foreign diplomats

The European External Action Service summoned the Russian chargé d’affaires ai over threats to foreign citizens and diplomats with calls to leave Kyiv. This was reported by European Commission representative Anita Hipper.

According to her, such statements by Moscow are an unacceptable escalation. Brussels called on Russia to stop shelling the civilian population and move to genuine peace talks, starting with a full and unconditional ceasefire.

“The European External Action Service summoned the Russian chargé d’affaires ai, calling for the cessation of shelling of the civilian population and the commencement of genuine peace talks, starting with a full and unconditional ceasefire,” Hipper wrote.

The European Commission representative also stressed that the EU Delegation continues to work in Kyiv despite Russian threats.

The day before, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it would consider possible Russian attacks on Polish diplomatic missions as targeted and deliberate. The department called on Moscow to immediately stop the war against Ukraine.

The EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, also assured that diplomats would not leave Kyiv. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Szybiga said that Russian threats are intended to intimidate foreign diplomats.

Amid Moscow’s statements, the EU confirmed the continuation of its diplomatic presence in the Ukrainian capital and called on Russia to de-escalate.
