The Trump administration is skeptical about the prospects of a truce in Ukraine in the coming months

Officials from the Trump administration believe that a ceasefire in Ukraine is unlikely to be reached in the coming months. In this connection, new instruments of pressure on both Ukraine and Russia are being developed. About this informs Reuters.

In recent days, senior Trump administration officials have discussed the possibility that the United States will fail to secure a peace deal with Ukraine in the coming months and are working on new plans to pressure Kyiv and Moscow. The White House is developing alternative mechanisms of influence on both sides of the conflict.

U.S. officials say none of the possible deals appear imminent. This, in turn, increases the risk of prolonging the war and increasing Western military support for Ukraine.

“Such a scenario would be unacceptable for Trump, who positions himself as a master negotiator and has repeatedly promised a quick end to the conflict that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and could bring NATO into direct conflict with nuclear-armed Russia.” – the message says.

In a series of meetings and phone calls over the weekend, White House and State Department officials acknowledged that Vladimir Putin is actively opposing Washington’s efforts to reach a lasting peace deal. They also discussed possible economic and diplomatic measures that could force Moscow to agree to a deal, if such tools exist, the sources said.

The growing dissatisfaction with Moscow, particularly on the part of the president personally, indicates a change of tone in internal discussions regarding the Kremlin’s readiness for negotiations. For weeks, Trump has expressed confidence in Putin and believes he is open to peace, but the White House has grown increasingly skeptical of the Russian leader’s true intentions recently, the sources said. At the same time, Trump continues to publicly demonstrate his belief that Putin is committed to ending the war.

“There is deep disappointment with the Russian government in the way the negotiations have gone. President Trump has made it clear that he will consider imposing additional sanctions on all oil from Russia if there is no serious intention on their part to end this conflict peacefully.” – concluded the spokesman of the National Security Council, James Hewitt.
