The European Commission additionally allocates 40 million euros to protect Ukrainians from the winter cold

The European Commission announced the allocation of an additional 40 million euros in humanitarian aid to support Ukrainians during the fourth winter of full-scale war.

The new financing is aimed at improving Ukraine’s readiness for the winter period and protecting the civilian population from severe cold. EU humanitarian aid partners will provide shelter with essential materials, repair damaged housing and centers for displaced people, and improve access to water, sanitation and heating.

Within the scope of this support, the provision of monetary assistance, solid fuel, heating devices and insulating materials, as well as the arrangement of heating points is provided. Special emphasis will be placed on helping vulnerable categories of the population — the elderly, children, persons with disabilities, and families of immigrants.

We would like to remind you that through the Civil Protection Mechanism, the EU has already handed over 156,000 tons of humanitarian goods. In response to the massive destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, this aid includes the supply of energy equipment: 9,342 generators, 6,917 transformers and millions of energy-saving LED lamps.

In general, the EU and its member states have already mobilized over 4.2 billion euros in humanitarian aid for Ukraine and neighboring states. In addition, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the EU, it was possible to medically evacuate more than 4,500 Ukrainian patients to hospitals in 22 European countries for further treatment.
