The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to China regarding its peace plan

This week, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi presented a joint vision with Brazil for a peaceful solution to the Russian-Ukrainian war. The head of the diplomatic service of the People’s Republic of China emphasized that this peace plan, which was proposed as an alternative to participation in the Global Peace Summit initiated by Ukraine, was supported by 26 countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reacted to Wang Yi’s statements and expressed the country’s position on the Chinese peace plan.

In particular, China proposes to hold a new peace conference in which Russia would also participate. On the other hand, the plan of the People’s Republic of China and Brazil bypasses the issue of the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that they took into account the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and paid tribute to China’s statements about respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries of the world. At the same time, the diplomatic agency emphasized that Ukraine, which was directly affected by the war, has the right to propose its terms for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“It is Ukraine, on the territory of which war is raging, as a party that is fully suffering from the devastating consequences of Russian aggression, that must determine what peace should be. The only fair basis for achieving such peace is the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi,” – the ministry noted.

Also, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed regret that China refused to participate in the Global Peace Summit.

“The participation of a high representative of the PRC in the summit could be a good opportunity to make a practical contribution to the achievement of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, restoration of its territorial integrity. Against the background of the four summits between China and the aggressor state Russia at the level of leaders, held since the beginning full-scale invasion, this would be an important signal of China’s balanced position,” the Foreign Ministry said.
