The European Commission has approved 47 strategic projects in the field of critical raw materials

The European Commission presented a list of 47 strategic projects, the purpose of which is to increase the production of 14 of 17 resources that are considered critical for the energy transition and security of the EU. About this reported head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy Danylo Hetmantsev.
“This will contribute to the strengthening of joint strategic raw material capacities, which, in turn, will strengthen the European raw material value chain and diversify sources of supply.” – noted in the EC.
Hetmantsev emphasized that the selected projects are an important stage in the implementation of the Act on Critical Raw Materials (CRMA), which sets targets by 2030: the European Union will ensure 10% of extraction, 40% processing and 25% processing of strategic raw materials to cover its own demand.
“The projects will be implemented in 13 EU member states: Belgium, Greece, Estonia, Spain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Finland, France, the Czech Republic, Sweden. The expected total capital investment required for the implementation of 47 strategic projects is EUR 22.5 billion”, – the message says.
The new strategic projects are implemented within the framework of the implementation of the Critical Materials Act (CRMA), which was passed in 2023. According to the provisions of this law, by 2030, the European Union must ensure coverage of 10% of needs in mining, 40% in processing and 25% in processing of strategic raw materials.
