The European Commission has started screening the legislation of Ukraine in the cluster on agriculture

Ukraine and the European Commission have started the screening of Ukrainian legislation under the negotiating chapter in the cluster related to agriculture. This is the last negotiating cluster according to which the European Commission analyzes the legislative framework of Ukraine, reported Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Taras Kachka.

“It is obvious to us that agrarian policy is one of the most important in the negotiations. Ukrainian agrarian policy has been transforming for many years, updating and modernizing its practices, which allows us to actively approach the EU’s common agrarian policy. For us, this screening session is not the beginning, but the conclusion of many years of cooperation with the European Union. Today we have the opportunity to lay the foundation for the further integration of the Ukrainian agricultural sector into the common policy of the EU, Taras Kachka emphasized.

He emphasized that the screening of legislation in the field of agriculture is a “sensitive topic”.

“Today we are talking about agrarian policy: support for farmers, development of rural areas, control and administration systems. Behind technical issues lies a lot of politics, which we have experienced very well in recent years. The vulnerability of Ukrainian and European farmers makes agrarian issues the most politically sensitive, Taras Kachka said.

He also expressed hope that the integration of Ukraine into the EU and the merger of agricultural markets will make both Ukraine and the European Union the most powerful player in the global food system.
