The European Commission will help Ukraine finance gas supplies
The European Commission will facilitate the financing of gas purchases for Ukraine, in particular through the “UkraineFacility” mechanism. This is stated in statements European Commission.
This approach will allow increasing gas reserves to guarantee security of supply, which will benefit both Ukraine and the entire region. This is part of a new support package aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy system and its full integration into the European energy market.
“We are grateful to the leadership of the European Union and all participating countries for the systematic and consistent support of Ukrainian energy. Your contribution to the restoration and stability of our energy system is decisive. Ukraine remains committed to reforms and strives for full integration into the common EU energy market as soon as possible.
The use of Ukrainian storage facilities and the creation of sufficient reserves of natural gas is strategically important for the reliability of gas supply in the region. Together, we are strengthening the energy security of the whole of Europe, of which Ukraine is and always will be an integral part.” – noted Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko.
In addition to financing gas purchases, the support package provides for the integration of the Ukrainian electricity market into the EU no later than the spring of 2027 and the acceleration of investments in renewable energy.
“Only a fully independent energy system can protect Ukraine from current attacks and future pressures. Ukraine’s full integration into the EU energy market will be part of the overall security guarantees that the EU can provide, as well as an effective precondition for recovery, as energy security is key to ensuring the flow of investment throughout the country.” – says the statement of the European Commission.
