The Finnish bank Osspanki simplifies the opening of accounts for Ukrainian refugees
Osspanki Bank, one of the largest banks in Finland, has announced the simplification of the procedure for opening accounts for Ukrainian refugees who have received temporary protection (residence permit B).
About this write FinUa.org.
Until March 4, 2025, Ukrainian refugees do not need a residence permit to open an account at Osspanki Bank. This greatly simplifies the process for people who have recently arrived in Finland.
To open an account, Ukrainian refugees only need a henkirokorutti (Finnish identity card for foreigners) and proof of residential address. The bank will not charge a commission for opening an account, and the cost of issuing a card is 50 euros.
Osspanki Bank – one of the first Finnish banks that offered a simplified account opening procedure for Ukrainian refugees. This step will help Ukrainians to better integrate into Finnish society and live a more independent life.
Other banks in Finland also offer various programs for Ukrainian refugees. Some banks allow you to open an account online, while others only allow you to visit a branch in person. It is recommended to compare the conditions of different banks before opening an account.
Ukrainian refugees who receive income abroad must submit an income declaration to the State Tax Service of Ukraine by May 1, 2024. This also applies to pensioners who receive assistance abroad. The fine for failure to submit a declaration is 340 hryvnias.
Funds in foreign banks up to $250,000 are not taxed.
Importantly:
- Contact your bank for up-to-date information on account opening conditions.
- Keep all documents related to your bank account.
- Declare all your income received abroad.
