The former NATO Secretary General suggested the end of the war in Ukraine along the front line, but without recognizing the Russian annexation

Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated, that the war in Ukraine may end by establishing a cease-fire line, but this will not mean recognition by Russia of the annexed territories. He emphasized that even if part of the territory temporarily remains under the control of the Russian Federation, Ukraine should not give up its rights to these regions.

Stoltenberg believes that peace without territorial losses for Ukraine currently looks unlikely. As a compromise step, he proposes the temporary establishment of a demarcation line, which may include some territorial concessions. However, such decisions must be accompanied by security guarantees for Kyiv, which may include NATO membership or other forms of international support.

In his statement, Stoltenberg noted that the situation on the battlefield is currently extremely difficult, and the prospects for the complete liberation of Ukrainian territories in the near future look unrealistic. At the same time, he emphasized that the ceasefire should not mean the final consolidation of the occupied territories by Russia.

“We need a cease-fire line, and of course, this line should ideally cover all territories, including those currently controlled by Russia. But we see that this is not necessarily realistic in the near future.”, said the former Secretary General of NATO
