The government approved the resolution on the introduction of specialists to accompany veterans and demobilized persons

Candidates for this position can apply until the end of August by filling out the appropriate questionnaire. 

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution defining a new mechanism for supporting war veterans and demobilized persons by introducing support specialists. The move is aimed at easing the transition from military service to civilian life, write Government portal.

The resolution stipulates clear requirements for candidates for the positions of escort specialists, their professional training, working conditions and subordination. Specialists should provide comprehensive support to veterans in the process of their adaptation to peaceful life.

“This is an important step for the implementation of the veterans’ support institute in Ukraine. In NATO countries, this practice has already proven its effectiveness. We plan that the first specialists will start work already in the fall of this year.” – noted acting Oleksandr Porhun, Minister of Veteran Affairs of Ukraine.

Escort specialists will provide support to the following categories of citizens:

  • War veterans
  • Persons with special services to the Motherland
  • Injured participants of the Revolution of Dignity
  • Family members of the specified persons
  • Family members of fallen (deceased) war veterans, Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine
  • Demobilized persons

Support specialists will provide information and consultation support, help with obtaining statuses, benefits, services, housing, rehabilitation, employment and starting your own business. They will also provide legal assistance.

“The escort specialist will be the first person to meet the veterans after returning to the community. They will provide informational support, advise on various issues and help with the necessary documents”Porhun added.

Any citizen of Ukraine who has an appropriate level of education and a desire to help veterans can become an escort specialist. Preference will be given to candidates who are themselves veterans or have the status of persons with special merits to the Motherland.

Candidates will undergo electronic registration through platform e-Veteran, and then testing for knowledge of legislation and psychological readiness. After successful completion of all selection stages, candidates will be referred to local self-government bodies for final consideration.

Support professionals will work in community facilities and veteran spaces, providing assistance and support to veterans and their families. Professional training and professional development of specialists will be carried out in institutions of higher education and veteran development centers under the auspices of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
