The government has approved a bill on a significant increase in excise duties on fuel: details

The government has approved a draft law on a significant increase in excise taxes on fuel from 2028, with a gradual increase already from July 2024.

At its meeting on May 12, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft law proposing to significantly increase excise taxes on gasoline, diesel and liquefied gas in Ukraine.

About this reported permanent representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk in Telegram.

According to the project, which still needs to be considered and voted on by the Verkhovna Rada, excise taxes on fuel from January 1, 2028 will reach:

  • 359 euros per 1,000 liters for gasoline;
  • 330 euros per 1000 liters for diesel fuel;
  • 277 euros per 1000 liters for LPG.

It is important to note that this is not a one-time increase, but only the end point of a gradual increase in excise taxes, which will begin as early as July 1, 2024 and will continue until the end of 2027.

It is also worth mentioning that the previous version of this draft law, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in March 2024, provided for a much lower excise duty on liquefied gas – 70 euros per 1,000 liters until 2028.
