The government plans to attract additional funding for road repairs

The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development has been tasked with intensifying its work on finding additional funding for road repairs, in particular by involving mechanisms under state guarantees and in cooperation with international partners. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to her, road repair work is ongoing in various regions of the country. Since the beginning of the year, more than 1 million sq. m of damage, and this, as the head of government noted, is the highest figure in the last six years.

“Repair work is underway on roads throughout the country. Since the beginning of the year, more than 1 million sq. m of damage has already been eliminated. This is the highest figure in the last six years”, she wrote in Telegram.

Svyrydenko noted that by the end of March, the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development must ensure the maximum daily pace of work. It is planned to complete current repairs on international highways by May 1, and all major work should be completed by June 1.

She also emphasized that special attention will be paid to roads that are important for front-line logistics, military, medical and humanitarian transportation. According to her, it was agreed with the Ministry of Defense that the SSST units will begin repairs in the 30-kilometer zone from the line of combat contact.

According to the Prime Minister, an additional UAH 1.5 billion will be allocated for these works. The list of roads has already been agreed with the military.

In addition, Svyrydenko recalled that the government had previously allocated UAH 3 billion from the reserve fund. Another 12.6 billion UAH, included in the budget for 2026, has already been allocated for road repair and maintenance.

“I instructed the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development to intensify work on attracting additional resources – in particular, under state guarantees and in cooperation with international partners,” she wrote on Telegram.

Earlier, Yulia Svyrydenko stated that the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development needs to increase the pace of road works from 60 thousand square meters per day to 150 thousand by the end of March.

According to the head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development, Serhiy Sukhomlyn, to restore roads of national importance after the severe winter of 2025-2026, approximately 12-14 billion hryvnias.

The Prime Minister also reported that by June 1, 2026, pothole repairs should be carried out on all international and state highways.
