The head of the World Economic Forum has resigned amid the high-profile story with Epstein

The President and CEO of the World Economic Forum, Borge Brende, announced his resignation after information emerged about his contacts with convicted pedophile and American financier Jeffrey Epstein.

This was reported in a statement by the forum’s co-chairs, Andre Hoffman and Larry Fink, released on February 26. Brende himself announced on the same day that he had decided to step down “after careful consideration”.

The forum’s leadership statement stated that Alois Zwingi would be acting as interim president and CEO.

“The Board of Trustees will oversee the transition of leadership, including a plan for a due process process to identify a permanent successor,” the document states.

In early February, the World Economic Forum announced the launch of an internal investigation into Brende after the publication of materials that testified about his contacts with Jeffrey Epstein.

Meanwhile, a separate investigation is underway in the UK. Earlier this month, British police opened criminal proceedings against former British ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson after Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government handed over his correspondence with Epstein to law enforcement. Mandelson was arrested on February 23 and released from custody the next day.

According to materials released by the US Department of Justice in the Epstein case, Mandelson sent the financier details of sensitive economic discussions of the UK government. The situation surrounding the case continues to cause considerable resonance.
