The IAEA adopted a resolution regarding the return of the Zaporizhzhia NPP to Ukraine

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) adopted a resolution calling for Ukraine to restore control over the Zaporizhzhya NPP. This was informed by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.

The document, which was supported by 62 member states of the IAEA, contains a demand for the Russian Federation to immediately carry out the deoccupation and demilitarization of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and return it to the full control of Ukraine.

The resolution was initiated by Ukraine together with international partners and became another signal from the world community about the inadmissibility of Russia’s actions that endanger the nuclear security of the entire continent.

“We are grateful to every country that supported this important document. 62 votes “for” is a clear signal to the civilized world: nuclear terrorism is unacceptable, and the Zaporizhzhia NPP occupied by Russia must be immediately transferred to the control of Ukraine, – stated the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grynchuk.

The resolution contains a direct call for the immediate withdrawal of all unauthorized military and other personnel from the ZNPP. The document also confirms that the nuclear power plant and all other nuclear facilities of Ukraine must operate exclusively under the sovereign control of competent Ukrainian authorities. The importance of continuing the IAEA mission at the ZNPP, despite Russia’s attempts to interfere with its work, is separately emphasized.

The presence of IAEA experts guarantees the recording of all incidents, risks and attacks and bringing them to the international level for further consideration. In addition, the document recalls Russia’s strikes on the Chernobyl zone and the damage to the New Safe Confinement, which creates an additional threat to international nuclear security.
