The International Committee of the Red Cross has named the number of requests for missing persons during the war
The International Committee of the Red Cross has reported a significant volume of appeals from families of Ukrainians and Russians searching for loved ones who went missing as a result of the war.
According to the words of the ICRC Director General Pierre Kraechenbühl, since the beginning of the war the organization has received more than 200 thousand appeals from families from Ukraine and Russia regarding persons who went missing under special circumstances. These appeals concern people with whom contact was lost during hostilities or as a result of war-related events.
Krähenbühl clarified that the database of the International Committee of the Red Cross currently has several tens of thousands of Ukrainians who are considered missing due to the war. According to him, all appeals are systematized and entered into the appropriate register.
He emphasized that the total number of appeals from families covers both cases of probable captivity and situations where individuals may have died during hostilities.
“We are talking about those who are likely captives and people who may have died in battle. This is a large group of registered people. And these are the numbers we have today,” he noted.
