The leaders of Sumy and Siversk districts decided to forcibly evacuate residents with children from the border areas

The Sumy District Council reported on an extremely important decision that concerns the safety of residents of the border areas of Sumy Oblast with children. The leaders of the Sumy Regional Military Administration (OVA) and the operational-tactical group “Siversk” signed an order on the mandatory evacuation of citizens living in the most dangerous settlements of the region. Such a step is connected with the growing danger due to constant shelling, which poses a serious threat to the life and health of the local population, especially children.
The list of communities from which residents must be evacuated includes several border territorial communities, namely:
- Bilopolska is one of the largest administrative centers of the district, which is located in close proximity to the border with Russia and is regularly attacked;
- Vorozhbyanska is also a border community known for its strategic location;
- Krasnopilska is a community located in the north-east of the region, where numerous cases of shelling have been recorded;
- Khotinska is an important settlement that falls under the risk zone due to its proximity to hostilities;
- Yunakivska is a territory regularly subjected to enemy attacks;
- Myropilska is a community that has strategic importance and also suffers from military operations;
- Mykolaivska is another community under threat due to its location near the border.
This evacuation is mandatory for families with children, as the main priority remains the preservation of the lives of the smallest inhabitants of the region. It is worth noting that socially vulnerable categories of the population will remain in some communities, in particular the elderly and people with disabilities, who may also be included in the evacuation lists.
We will remind that the evacuation in the Sumy region has been going on for several weeks. The process was started on September 5 in three communities of Shostky district: Glukhivska, Esmanska and Sveska. These communities are also located in close proximity to the border with Russia and became the first where local authorities announced the need for mandatory evacuation. In total, 32,793 people, including 4,098 children, are subject to evacuation in these areas.
To date, evacuation in the Shostky district is actively underway. According to Volodymyr Artyukh, the head of Sumy OVA, the evacuation process takes place according to a pre-prepared plan and is controlled by all relevant structures. The police perform an extremely important function – they conduct explanatory conversations with citizens, explaining the need to leave dangerous areas in time. In addition, social services provide assistance to evacuees in various matters, in particular, it concerns the organization of payments for displaced persons and their placement in safer regions of the country.
Currently, 12,295 people have been evacuated, of which 3,140 are children. However, about 20,498 people remain at risk and their evacuation is ongoing. Among them are 958 children who must also be removed from dangerous areas.
