The mine, which provided almost half of the coal production in Ukraine, stopped working

Rinat Akhmetov’s “Metinvest” group suspended the operation of its coal site in the village of Pishchane near Pokrovsk in Donetsk region. About this informs European stock exchange Euronext.

The reason for the cessation of activities is the threat associated with the approach of the front line and intense shelling. This site used to provide about 50% of coal production by “Metinvest” in Ukraine. Other key facilities of the company currently continue to operate.

Vertical shaft No. 3 of the Pokrovske mine management and the administrative complex are located on the territory of the object. The company evacuated key personnel and their family members to ensure their safety.

“Metinvest, together with the Pokrovsk City Military Administration and representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is closely monitoring the security situation around the city and industrial facilities. Decisions regarding the continuation of the operation of all industrial facilities will be made based on the situation developing at the front.”, the message says.

The company is currently assessing the impact of the shutdown at this facility. There is currently no information about the closure of other mines near Pokrovsk.
