The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved a new fiber-optic drone system for use in units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is about the unmanned aerial complex “Gromylo Optik” of Ukrainian production, informs press service of the Ministry of Defense.
Gromylo drones of various modifications have been successfully performing tasks in the Armed Forces of Ukraine for a long time, destroying a significant amount of enemy equipment. At the request of the military, the manufacturer created larger models of “Thunderbolts” – with 10-inch frames.
Such drones are capable of carrying a charge of explosive force sufficient to destroy tanks with enhanced protection and fortified firing positions. They are equipped with a fiber-optic control channel, as well as video systems to choose from — with a day, twilight or thermal imaging camera, which ensure accurate identification of targets regardless of the time of day.
“Gromylo Optik” drones are already actively used by military units. Cases of damage to tanks, armored personnel carriers and enemy firing points were recorded. “Gromylo Optic” is a modern means of warfare, the main advantages of which include a long range of use and high efficiency of hitting targets.
“Since the beginning of 2025, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has already codified and put into operation about 40 samples of unmanned aircraft systems on the optical fiber control channel, in particular, a dozen of them – during April. Our manufacturers quickly respond to the challenges of the front. The advantage is gained by the one who more quickly implements innovative solutions. We cannot fall into the trap of illusions, underestimate the technical capabilities of the enemy, because he is constantly improving technically. We have to do it faster.” – emphasized the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Valery Churkin.
