Ukrainian refugees

The Ministry of Defense has developed an algorithm for remote opening of accounts for families of foreign servicemen

During the war, Ukraine faced an unprecedented wave of support from the international community, when citizens of different countries decided to fight side by side with Ukrainian soldiers against Russian aggression. Unfortunately, among those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine, there are also foreigners. These heroes left behind families that need help and support, including financial support. And often these families include Ukrainian refugees who, fleeing the war, found refuge in different countries of the world.

In order to facilitate the process of receiving cash payments to the families of foreigners who died, went missing or were captured during hostilities, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine developed a special Algorithm for remote account opening. This algorithm is aimed at enabling family members of foreign servicemen to receive cash payments, even while abroad, in the most simplified and understandable way.

“The algorithm also provides for a step-by-step action plan for family members of foreign servicemen to receive financial support and other payments,”reports the General Staff Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.

It is important to note that this mechanism does not only apply to bereaved families, but also to those whose relatives have disappeared or been captured.

The procedure for receiving payments begins with the submission of documents to the Ukrainian embassy in the country of residence of the family of the deceased. There, the family must issue a power of attorney for a representative in Ukraine, who will have the right to submit documents to the Territorial Centers of Recruitment and Social Support (TCC), as well as open an account in a public sector bank. It can be a lawyer or other authorized persons with Ukrainian citizenship.

Next, the applicant prepares a package of documents, which includes an application for financial support, burial assistance, a certified copy of the serviceman’s death certificate, and documents confirming family ties. In addition, the family must provide copies of documents confirming their identity and documents certifying registration in the State Register of Taxpayers.

After collecting all the necessary documents, they are transferred to a representative in Ukraine, who is in charge of opening a bank account and transferring documents to the TCC or a military unit. Such a system is intended to significantly facilitate the process of receiving payments for the families of foreign servicemen, providing support to those who lost their loved ones in the fight for Ukraine.
