The Ministry of Defense is purchasing body armor with an element of positive buoyancy for the first time
The “State Operator of the Rear” of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is for the first time purchasing body armor equipped with a positive buoyancy element. This is a basic modular package, to which a special module has been added, designed for use when performing tasks on water.
The positive buoyancy element was developed and approved by the Central Directorate for the Development of Material Support. In case of contact with water, this module turns the body armor into a rescue device capable of keeping a serviceman afloat even in full equipment – with weapons, ammunition and personal protective equipment. This feature significantly reduces risks during operations at sea or in areas with water obstacles.
Body armor with a positive buoyancy element is intended for units of the Naval Forces and Special Operations Forces that perform combat missions in coastal or water conditions.
“When developing and purchasing personal protective equipment, the priority is the life of a serviceman. That is why the introduction of a positive buoyancy element is considered not as an option, but as an absolute necessity. This approach increases the level of safety when performing tasks in the coastal zone or on the water”, the department explained.
